3 points and 4th in the league.

January 23 2010 | Ladies 2nd XI vs Uttoxeter | 3-1 Win

Lichfield went into the game against Uttoxeter knowing that a win would put them into fourth place in the league and give them a comfortable 6 point game between themselves and the day’s opposition.

 

Lichfield started brightly looking to build on the previous weeks win.  Some good passing plays by the Lichfield midfield looked promising and showed that the team were comfortable on the ball.  But Uttoxeter were not going to let Lichfield have it all their own way.  With a couple of fast and skilful forward players Uttoxeter were looking to put the Lichfield defence under pressure but they were to be thwarted by an even more capable defensive unit.

 

Then the break through came after some neat passing around the pitch the ball fell to Anna Dowen who finished the move off to claim the first goal of the game.  A bobbley pitch saw a few injuries to Lichfield players but the determination of the side meant that the team battled through to take a one nil lead into half time.

 

The second half showed much of the same, with both teams battling hard in the midfield.  Some superb play down the right wing saw Katherine Ellis and Rachael Eastland link up on several occasions and produce some fine crosses into the attacking D, only to see the resulting shots either saved by a busy Uttoxeter keeper or whistle just wide of the post.  Then a superb shot from Eastland at the top of the D flew past the keeper to make it 2-0.

 

Uttoxeter were not beaten yet though.  Lichfield were caught napping and Uttoxeter broke clear through the midfield.  The defence tried in vain to stop the attackers but a 2 v 1 with the Lichfield keeper produced an inevitable finish and Uttoxeter pulled a goal back.  This spurred Lichfield on again and with the last move of the game Ellis found Eastland in space to finish the game off for Lichfield and secure the 3 points for Lichfield.

 

Lichfield go into next weeks game against the second in the league full of confidence and looking to gain their 4th straight win in the league.
