A late push back time, miserable weather conditions, a poor quality pitch and post Christmas blues meant enthusiasm could be in short supply for Lichfield in this away fixture. However, with Rugeley only able to field 9 players, three points were available for the taking.

Despite their apparent disadvantage, Rugeley were not going to be defeated without a good fight. It took until mid way through the first half for Lichfield to get goal number 1 through an excellent strike from Anna Dowen at the edge of the ‘D’. Shots continued to rain in on the Rugeley goal but it was not until close to the half-time whistle that Colette Edwards found the back of the net to make it 0-2.

Early on in the second half and it seemed Lichfield could not miss their target. A second from Anna Dowen, goals from Jo Wilcox and Katherine Ellis and a second from Colette Edwards sealed victory. Lichfield had settled into their stride and some lovely hockey was seen.

The 3 points are gladly received as Lichfield are still locked in the mid-table battle and must continue their victorious run in order to stay in contention.
