February 13 2010 | Ladies 1st XI vs Leek | 1-3 Lose

Lichfield arrived early, but unfortunately failed to start well on the pitch.   Having knowledge of what to expect against this formidable Leek side, certainly helped Steve Wilkinson's side prepare themselves for what was to come. Lichfield started the game slowly, and hesitantly.   Leek scored their first goal, whilst Lichfield was still trying to shake off the long sickly car journey. The goal was scored in open play, Lichfield appeared to part like the red sea allowing the ball to be struck into the back of the goal very cheaply.   This gave Leek the momentum that they were after, and it took to the next Leek goal for Lichfield to wake up and smell the coffee. The ball was then zipped around by the Lichfield defence, and Mills/ Vernon and Layton found themselves involved in the game at last. Leek put up a good defence, all be it with a little from help from the umpire/s. Players player Alicia White was playing a brilliant game of pin a tail on a donkey, as the Leek forwards found themselves not being able to move a muscle without a ferocious well timed tackle from White.   The game was starting to be played with gusto and passion from both sides.   The second half started in much the same way as the first half ended. Lichfield securing themselves a few short corners. These were worked well, and Menmuir fired off some excellent shots forcing the keeper to make some good saves.    The third Leek goal struck, and Lichfield did not let this drop their heads or spirits. Rodgers and Taylor Tibbet continued to battle it out in Midfield, against a very strong midfield. Lichfield's only came with an inspirational burst of energy from Vernon, who drew the keeper out to the top of D, and slotted the ball past her with enthusiasm and elegance.   Lichfield tried to keep the pressure on, but it was just too late in the game to do anything else about it.   Lichfield learnt a valuable lesson after today's game. A lot can happen in ten minutes...   Onto next weekends game  at home against Telford. Hopefully this will provide Lichfield with a much needed victory.
