Well fought battle!

Lichfield took their time to settle into this match with mid table North Staffs. Early penalty corners were not utilised fully and concentration seemed lacking from the players. A penalty flick was awarded for a foul on Lizzy Bazeley but unfortunately the goalkeeper saved a good attempt from Anna Dowen

 

This seemed to spur Lichfield on and they knuckled down, demonstrating good teamwork and some lovely hockey. Hard work from the midfielders set Lizzy up on a break that saw her one-on-one with the goalkeeper where she calmly slotted home the teams’ 60th goal of the season.

 

Shortly after, a Lichfield hit from just outside the ‘D’, found Rachael Eastland who secured a second goal for the away team.

 

Lichfield worked hard but were down to 11 when Donna Critchley had to leave the pitch injured. The loss of such a central defender seemed to unnerve Lichfield and some composure was lost.

 

The second half was largely dominated by Lichfield and ‘girl of the game’Rachael

Eastland struck a superb shot from a penalty corner to give a 3-0 victory.

 

 It was a well fought battle and the war wounds were evident. Lichfield needs to ensure they retain their nerve and flare as they enter into the final stages of the season in order to guarantee promotion.
