Season to once again be decided on the final day

March 21 2009 | Mens 1st XI vs Mansfield | 4-4 Draw

Lichfield came back from being 4-1 down to claim a point with a 4-4 draw against Mansfield on Saturday in the Bodykraft Midlands Premier league. With only 2 games remaining and Lichfield in the bottom 3 teams, a result was imperative for the city side and leaves them with only a win giving them a chance of safety on the final day.

 

Lichfield did not start well in a very open game where Mansfield capitalised on a few early mistakes to score 3 goals in quick succession. Lichfield managed to pull a goal back just before the break when a cross field ball was well finished by Will Rogers. However, Mansfield quickly re-established their lead going 4-1 ahead soon afterwards.

 

The second half was a very different story as Lichfield started to link well together and Paul Campbell converted 2 well executed penalty corner strikes to get Lichfield back in the game. Adrian Gilbert then equalised for the visitors with an excellent reverse stick strike.

 

Lichfield continued to press and came close to stealing the win in the closing stages but were not able to find a winning goal. Lichfield must build on this determination to give one last performance when they take on Sikh Union at home on Saturday.
